Weight Management: KNOW YOUR BODY

The term weight management implies that the weight of an individual must be according to his/her height, gender, and the percentage of fat in the body. It is done by increasing, decreasing, or maintaining the current weight. Obese people face several problems daily. For instance, they might not be able to move around freely because of the extra weight and the pressure it places on their joints. Trips to the shopping mall or supermarket, which are normal for other people, are a painful and often humiliating experience.

They might be concerned about their health and the long-term consequences of their obesity. Countless studies have shown that carrying around excess weight comes with significant risk and is associated with a higher chance of .premature death.

Hence, some of the necessary factors to be looked upon to maintain a proper healthy weight are as follows:

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
One must be involved in some sort of physical activity on daily basis. For example, yoga, exercise, cycling, swimming, etc.

AWARENESS
Consuming foods after reading their labels.

LIFESTYLE AND EATING HABITS
Food habits should not be influenced by emotional behaviour. Rather, one should remain aware of what, how, and when they are taking food. Positive changes are appreciable in both, lifestyle and food habits.

PROPER SLEEP
One should have stress-free and deep sleep so that the hormones are balanced.

DIETARY RESTRICTIONS
Less intake of sodium and sweet foods. Restriction of high-calorie and other junk foods like potato chips, burgers, coke, etc.

FIBRE FOODS
More intake of high fibre foods like green leafy vegetables, fruits, salads, sprouted legumes, etc.

YOGA
The weight can be maintained by doing regular Yoga

TIPS FOR INCREASING THE WEIGHT
Consumption of dry fruits such as dates, walnuts, figs, etc in the morning. They supply antioxidants to the body and are good for healthy weight gain. Adequate quantities of dairy products such as milk, curd, butter and cottage cheese supply good quality proteins to the body. Adequate sleep of seven to eight hours. Foods rich in calories such as potatoes, butter, cottage cheese and fried items can be taken. Foods such as rice, pulses, kidney beans, chickpeas, etc should be consumed regularly. A balanced diet that includes foods from all food groups should be consumed. Fish, eggs, soyabean, etc should be taken for the supply of protein to the body
