The Power She Holds

Mumtaz Khan of Lucknow has written a success tale unlike any other, having made her way from the small lanes of Lucknow's Topkhana to a university ground in Potchefstroom, South Africa.

The 19-year-old local girl brought pride to the city with a spectacular performance in the league during the country's final matches against South Korea and the Netherlands last week, in addition to being the only player from Uttar Pradesh in India's World Junior Hockey squad. Mumtaz not only scored critical goals for Team India and guided them to the finals, but she also scored the objective of becoming a symbol of perseverance and hard work for all aspiring athletes.

She was the best run-scorer for India this season at the Junior Hockey World Cup in South Africa, scoring six goals in the league and becoming the highest run-scorer for India this season. Khan was also named 'Player of the Match' in the World Cup SemiFinals, adding to her already impressive resume.
