POETRY EMBODIED IN ‘PARCHAIYAN’

The colours of art in the form of poetry embellished the hall of Sangeet Natak Akademi on May 27. A centenary birth celebration of famous poet Sahir Ludhianvi was organised by the joint efforts of the Uttar Pradesh Urdu Academy & Naushad Sangeet Development Society.

The 100th birth anniversary of the celebrated poet of the golden era was commemorated in the form of drama. Theatrical enactment of Ludhiayanvi's tremendous career and life was embodied in the play ‘Parchaiyan’ written and directed by Suhail Warsi.

The event was preceded by awarding ‘Naushad Samman 2022’ to distinguished guests by chief guest Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak in the presence of Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alok Kumar Rai as a special guest.

Among the distinguished guests were Art Director Padmashree Raj Bisaria, Actor Raza Murad, Poet Hassan Kamal, Singer Malti Joshi Fazli, Writer-Director Suhail Warsi, Actor Mohammad Idris, Writer-color director Salim Arif, Russian language expert Prof. Sabira Habib, writer-theatre artist Lalit Singh Pokharia, Dr Trinetra Bajpai, Lucknowi historian Nawab Jafar Mir Abdullah, theatre artist Premshankar Bharti and journalist Kulsoom Talha.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “those who contributed to art and literature should be respected as often as possible. It will become a source of inspiration for young talents.”

The event also saw the release of Dr Nikhat's collection 'Yaadon Ka Mausam' and the English book 'The Unforgettables’ by Dr Trinetra Bajpayee and Anshula Bajpayee.

The play began with a creative approach from anecdotes from young Sahir, who has been writing the book 'Talkhiyaan' to the scenes of Ludhiana College, where he has an unnamed sweetheart (Preksha) and has a religious affiliation between them. 'Parchhaiyan' showcased the poet, Sahir in every colour along with young Sahir (played by Singh), elderly Sahir (played by Masood Abdullah) and their poetry. About half of the dialogues in the play were in poetry format, and the theatrical performance progressed visually, interviewing the audience about Sahir's earlier life, and his Bollywood compositions as a stage poet and a lyricist.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, Naushad Society President Athar Nabi awarded some Naushad Samman to 16 distinguished guests.

The event concluded with Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, and other speakers expressing their views on art and its cultural heritage related to Lucknow.
