NEW CONDUITLESS SURGICAL TECHNIQUE FOR COMPLEX HEART DEFECTS
The families of master Parv and master Dev were not worried or scared of the fact that their children were suffering from a very complex birth defect of the heart which requires a major, risky and costly open heart surgery. They were prepared for it and managed the finances for the surgery. However, they came to know that this operation is mostly completed with the help of an artificial tube which has to be changed by another risky open heart surgery after every three to six years as it does not grow with the body and heart. After considering everything, the possibility of applying of new conduitless surgical technique was explored and it was successfully put to work in these lucky kids.
Master Parv was suffering from a very complex heart defect called Truncus Arteriosus in which both the great vessels were arising from the common trunk. The pulmonary artery was not arising from the heart as it happens in normal cases. So usually conduit is used to connect the heart to the lungs and two joined great vessels are separated from each other by using this new technique. A conduitless tube is made to connect the heart to the lungs. In the other case of master Dev, he was suffering from TGA, VSD and PS in which both the great vessels were transposed reversed so the main artery was arising from RV not from LV in this case. Also, conduitless technique was used to again reverse the situation and make it as it happens in a normal case.
With this advent and the use of the new “conduitless technique” most babies will not have to go through the highly risky “tube change” open heart operation time after time. Parents are also spared from taking risk of surgery, mental tension and spending money time after time. Surgeons also do not have to do this type of re-do surgery time after time. So, it’s good for everyone, more importantly for the baby who can live his or her life independently and can contribute to the growth of self, family, society and nation as well.
Now both the children have been discharged and are healthy. Some more babies have undergone this procedure in the past and are all healthy and growing well. With this new surgical technique, children can be saved from repeated operations and the parents, family and society get a child who can invest their energy in the overall progress of themselves and society.
