Come, Rise, Women and Children - PM is by your side! - Gujarat BJP Leader, Dr Bharat Dangar

WORK MORE, KNOW MORE: PM MODI’S MANTRA FOR SUCCESSFUL LEADERSHIP
What is leadership and how to become a leader? The narrator shares with us Modiji’s definition of leadership and his advice on how to become a leader worth one’s salt. We also get to know how close women empowerment is to our PM’s heart and the initiatives he undertook to make it a reality.

DREAM NOT TO BECOME SOMEBODY; DREAM OF DOING SOMETHING
This is about the time when world class indoor and outdoor sports complexes were under construction in Vadodara. I came in touch with Modiji at that time as he would always keep a special eye on the developments. During my close association with Modiji, I learnt several important lessons from him. Something that Modiji always said to the youngsters, the karyakartas and others was that – Never dream of becoming something, always dream of doing something. If you have decided to do something, you will eventually end up becoming what you wish to be. But if you dream to be someone, you will most likely get entangled in the web of your own dreams and not be able to achieve anything. Thus the emphasis was always on doing, on action! He also talked about leadership and shared his vision with us. He used to tell me, “If you wish to become a leader, then work the hardest. Make it a point that you work the harder than anyone else around you.” He would also encourage us to increase our knowledge. Modiji’s motto was “Work more than others, know more than others.” One should have complete information about whatever field one is in and that, he said, came from spending a lot of time working hard on the projects and the task at hand.

It is important to possess complete information for success which is possible when you spend a good deal of time at the workplace. And Modiji would always encourage karyakartas to work with devotion and dedication. Work to Modiji is akin to supreme sacrifice of self. He would insist that we ask ourselves questions such as “If our society has given us this much, what can we give back to our society?” This was always his focus. Honourable Modiji had started the Garib Kalyan Mela in Gujarat and every time he attended that event, he would gift cycles to kids, sewing machines to women - not just this, he would also follow-up with the women if the sewing machines were working or not and how much they were able to earn using the machine! I remember, under Mission Mangalam, Sakhi Mandals were created and Modiji was so concerned with the welfare of the women that he would interact with the women himself to find out whether they were feeling empowered or not. He definitely harbours a special corner for women and he would say “Women of the state, women of our country, need to lead self-reliant lives.” To make that a reality, Modiji left no stone unturned and ensured through continuous feedback that the schemes were functioning well enough and as intended.

HOW PM MODI’S LIFE IS A LIFE NOT FOR SELF, BUT FOR OTHERS - Gujarat Former MLA, Chandrakant M Patel
It makes a world of a difference when the PM cares about the women and the children of the country. The narrator shares the humane, compassionate side of PM Modi when his timely intervention cured a young boy of his ailment and helped him resume his schooling. It was during the Navaratris that I had the honour of hosting Modiji over tea. He is a devoted worshipper of the Goddess and during Navaratris he is even more cautious about the food he eats. As Narendra bhai moved out of the premises after tea, he spotted a boy standing far away in the crowd. Even we did not know what happened but Modiji started walking towards the boy. He requested for the boy to be brought to him from the crowd and as he came to him, Modiji addressed the boy and asked “What has happened to you?” The boy had a huge tumour at one side of his neck and Modiji put his finger to it to feel it and asked the boy “Does it hurt you? Where are your parents?” The boy pointed out in the distance towards his parents and Modiji called for the parents to come to him. He then interacted with the parents of the boy to find out more about his ailment.

He said to them “Your son is suffering so much. Does he study in a school or not? Are you aware of the government healthcare schemes in schools? The entire amount will be borne by the government for treatment of your son. So you must take a certificate from the school at the earliest and show him to a doctor. The government will ensure that your son is cured of the disease, free of cost.” Modiji then asked me to ensure a follow-up to the case and it is with immense pride I can say that the boy was operated upon successfully by the doctors and today he is studying well. This is how Narendra bhai shines like a beacon light for the world to feel inspired and encouraged to live for others. His humanitarian thoughts, compassion, and kindness have no parallel. When I met Narendra bhai a few months later, he referred to the boy once again in his conversation with me and inquired of me “How is the boy doing post operation? Do you know how is he faring now?” I told him, much to his satisfaction, that the boy was doing well and is healthy now. He was happy to know that the boy was able to walk around by himself and had resumed his schooling as well. To be continued...
