The national capital has a place called Khari Baoli which is Asia’s largest spice market. Northern India is also known as the land of spices which allows one to select from a wide range of both local as well as exotic spices. Thousands of people gather in the market for trading spices in an organised manner here. Each shop has a history where the spice trade has been carried forward by generations. The colourful market is full of cardamom, turmeric, chillis, dried nuts and a lot more spices. Now it also offers homemade pasta, jams and chutneys.

Initially, it was known as Khari Baoli or Bawdi built by Khwaja Abdullah Lazar Qureshi in 1551. Religious buildings were later built including the Fatehpuri Mosque built-in 1650. It was built by Fatehpuri Begum or Maharani Begum who was one of the wives of Emperor Shah Jahan.
