'Makeup is Meditation'

We would like to know more about you.

My name is Sarika Kapoor and I am a delhi based makeup artist. I have done my bachelors in elementary education which is a professional fouryear teacher training course from Delhi University. I have worked in Delhi for three years as a primary teacher. I have also been running my coaching institute for school children.

What inspired you to become a makeup artist?

I remember I used to collect Lakme palettes during my childhood. The exposure at the Delhi University infused me with confidence while doing makeup for various fests and co-curricular programmes. It made me enrol for a 7-day makeup course and I realized that I am meant to do this. Doing makeup is therapeutic for me and it feels like I am meditating.

What are the challenges that you faced?

One of the challenges of the field is to keep yourself physically fit and mentally calm during miles of travelling and standing for dozens of hours to attend back to back bookings in the peak season. Another challenge is the lack of patience and awareness among people who do not understand the nuances or minuteness of each stroke.
