Inside a Poet's Mind

It’s tough to keep track of every feeling one has in life and retain a mental record of them.

What’s more difficult is putting it down in a book and exposing it to millions of others who can connect to it.

Vaibhav Upadhyay, a 20-year-young poet from Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, has penned down a two times international best-seller, ‘Hallucinations’.

A novel on emotions, worry, and love that is elegantly written and delivers insights into the human psyche, which is frequently jumbled in waves of similar sentiments.

Talking about writing his stellar best-seller with City First, Vaibhav Upadhyay spoke about his inspiration, the dying art of poetry and the relaunch of Hallucinations.

• What was your inspiration behind writing a book? I have loved writing since I was 9. Many times I tried to write short stories, poems but unexpectedly failed.

In 2020, I decided to document my feelings of an extreme mental breakdown I had, due to continuous academic failures and emotional unavailability.

Many days passed, I continued to write - after a long streak of 8 months, I released my first book in May 2020.

• How does it feel to be such a young bestselling author? It feels just remarkable and surreal, however, that’s still an understatement, but yes, I am loving the way things are.

To be honest, I don’t exactly know who I should thank, but I would simply like to thank all my readers, my friends and my family for their everlasting support.

• Out of three books, which one is your personal favourite? ‘Hallucinations’ Is my personal favourite because it took me more than a year to perfect.

Many times people think “Poem Likhna Aasan Hai” (It’s easy to write poems), but to ensure that readers will enjoy it - you have to commit to it, the writings should reflect your perspectives.

And it took such a long time but I loved every second of writing it.

• After Hallucinations, what can your readers expect from you? I’ll keep writing. Since poetry is fading, I remain committed to reviving it. So something for the poetry aficionados is under works.

• Tell us a little about your bestselling book, Hallucinations and where can it be read? ‘Hallucinations’ describes a universe inside the mind of a poet.

It’s a collection of poetry, and as I claim, it would be a tour inside my mind.

I have connected space with my emotions and feelings. The bestseller edition is relaunching on January 29, 2022 - since it’s my birthday.

It will be available on Amazon in e-book/paperback and hardcover formats.
