Gender Equality Today For A Sustainable Tomorrow

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, under the National Service Scheme, a program was organized with the theme ‘Gender Equality today for a Sustainable Tomorrow #BreakTheBias’ on the pavilion ground of Lucknow University.

The program was inaugurated with the release of purple coloured balloons in the air, which represent justice and equality.

While releasing the balloons, a message was given by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor that “just as these balloons will disappear in the air, in the same way, we also have to end all kinds of discrimination and atrocities against women, only then Women will become empowered and self-reliant and will get equal opportunities to progress in the society”.

After giving such an inspirational message, the Vice-Chancellor visited the poster exhibition organised in honour of the great playback singer Lata Mangeshkar.

During the exhibition, a beautiful musical tribute was paid to Lata Mangeshkar Ji followed by a dance drama towards the end that incorporated the theme of ‘Ardhnareshwar’ symbolising the balance of energies. A cake-cutting ceremony also took place celebrating the sheer joy of womanhood and taking a step towards gender equality.

The whole program culminated on a beautiful note with a pledge to break the bias. The event pleaded women to challenge norms in their unique ways, it was all about breaking biases and progressing towards gender equality for a better and sustainable tomorrow for generations to come. Prof. Dinesh Singh, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, and Prof. Alok Kumar Rai, Vice-Chancellor, Lucknow University graced the event as the chief guests.

The event also honoured the female faculty members of the University of Lucknow for their immense contribution and tireless efforts towards making this world a better place.

During the felicitation ceremony, Shweta Verma was honoured with a Gold Medal and female alumni of the department Dr Anuradha Kakkar, Dr Jyoti Mishra, Dr Anjali Gulati, Ravija Srivastava, Prof. Shilpi Verma, Dr Rekha Verma, and Dr Pratima Bhardwaj were also awarded. Poonam Tandon, Prem Suman Sharma, Madhurima Lal,and Manuka Khanna graced the event as the chief guests during the felicitation ceremony
