Cutputtli saves the face of B-Town
2022 has not left a single Bollywood film without any scars and it continues to do so with every release. In this chaos, the question remained whether there would come a film that would change the narrative of the boycott Bollywood into a praise-worthy review. Although that day seemed far away, Akshay Kumar’s surprise OTT film, ‘Cutputtli’ came as an actual welcoming surprise that shocked everyone.
The film traces the journey of a serial murder investigation in the valleys of Kasauli, led by none other than Akshay Kumar and his team. Whether the police officers will be able to save the innocents from being murdered or will it take a toll on them is something that the movie very brilliantly executes. ‘Cutputtli’ directed by Ranjit Tewari is the remake of the 2018 Tamil film, ‘Ratsasan’. But never in the whole 2 hours and 14 mins does it feel like we are watching a shoddy remake. The film stands on it own very well and the powerful performances by each and every actor make up for all the poor films that were delivered this year.
Akshay Kumar is his usual perfect self with a believable performance that takes the viewers on his journey along with him. Rakul Preet Singh showed a talent that was not explored much in her previous films and brings out a new and better version of herself. Sargun Mehta, who was popularly seen on television and in the Punjab film industry, shows the world why she is cherished by the viewers so much with a gripping act. Chandrachoor Singh defines his comeback film justly and reminds the viewers why he is known as a veteran. Other performances by Sujith Shankar, Gurpreet Ghuggi and more also provide a class to the film.
Ranjit Tewari has done an excellent job in directing the film without looking like a rip-off of the original one. Although it revolves around similar circumstances, Cutputtli is uniquely independent.
The background scores add to the curiosity, jump scares and anxiety of the viewers which is beneficial for the ultimate viewing of the film. Overall, Cutputtli is a gripping story that gives the perfect edgy and thrilling vibe with a top-notch performance from Akshay and a trustworthy direction that will keep you on your toes throughout.
