AN AFTERNOON OF LEARNING & SAVOURING FRENCH SNACKS

Kick starting hands on training for students learning French at the Jaipur center of The French Institute in India (the Education, Science and Cultural service of the Embassy of France in India), an experiential programme was recently organized. Themed on ‘Gouter’ – a French term that connotes an afternoon snack eaten in France, the event began with the Deputy Director of the French Institute in India, Nicolas Gherardi, acquainting the students about the popular ‘Gouter’ eaten there. From different kinds of breads, cookies and spreads as well as beverages, the students not only got to learn their French names and pronunciations but also got to try these snacks at the end of the session. In fact, the participants also brought the popular afternoon snacks eaten at their homes. Attended by around 30 students of Back to School programme of Indian Women Blog and Sawai Man Singh International School, Jobner, the unique part about the event was indeed the coming together of French and Indian culture by way of food.

Director, French Institute in India, Jaipur, Sanjana Sarkar informed: “Post the covid-19 pandemic, this was the first experiential learning programme we organised at the Institute for students learning French with us under a subsidized French programme called ‘French for a Social Cause’. They are being trained as first-generation learners of the language. More such experiential learning programmes will be organised on a monthly basis under the banner of ‘Cafe with a French’ which will allow the learners at French Institute in Jaipur to experience French culture and language with a native speaker of the language.
