A Breather For Bollywood

The film is a horror-comedy and is a franchise of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa released in 2007. The story of the film is about an accidental, yet destined meet up between two strangers Ruhaan (Kartik Aaryan) and Reet ( Kiara Advani) who end up visiting Reet’s home town in Rajasthan which is haunted by the spirit of Manjulika (Tabu). Fate leads them to open up an old secret due to which all hell breaks loose leading to one lie, leading to a whole pile of lies which sends Ruhaan and Reet on a scary rollercoaster ride.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 is a fresh story and it holds its ground. Anees Bazmee has not just resorted to jumping scares to make it fit the horror genre but there are actual moments of ‘ghostly encounters’ that take you by surprise. The director has mastered the art of comedy so well that he can make you crack up in a jiffy.

Kartik does justice to his character and it seems that the character was written keeping in mind only and only Kartik Aaryan. He gets every chance to show his acting, dancing skills and comic timing in the film. Kiara is sweet and simple as Reet and looks gorgeous in each frame. Not that it’s some drastically different role that she hasn’t done in the past. Tabu, stand out strong in the entire film playing the character of the spirit of Manjulika and the caring bhabi of the family Anjulika. Tabu leaves a mark in every scene she appears.

Among other supporting casts, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, Ashwini Kalsekar and Rajesh Sharma bring some hilarious moments. Milind Gunanji and Amar Upadhyay have essential parts but in very limited screen time.

Overall the film is good and the best part is it does not let you miss the Bhool Bhulaiya of 2007. The individuality of the film stands out and it will not be fair on our part to compare it with Bhool Bhulaiya starring Akshay Kumar. The film is a gush of freshness.
