World No Tobacco Day: ACS Shubhra Singh leads statewide tobacco awareness effort
Jaipur: World No Tobacco Day highlights the deadly impact of tobacco on public health. Annually, over 77,000 deaths in the state are attributed to tobacco-related diseases, contributing to 1.35 million deaths nationwide and 8 million globally.
Tobacco smoke, a severe form of indoor pollution, contains over 7,000 chemicals, with 69 known to cause cancer. The public is urged to pledge against using any harmful products, including tobacco, and strive for a healthier, tobacco-free life. Efforts should be made to encourage those addicted to quit the habit. In alignment with this goal, the Medical Department will launch an awareness campaign focused on tobacco prohibition. ACS (Medical) Shubhra Singh has initiated this campaign by writing to collectors to kickstart awareness activities.
