Wife refuses to accept coins from husband

Jaipur: A woman has refused to accept coins of Rs 1 and 2 amounting to Rs 55,000 rupees for her eleven months’ due of maintenance to be given by her husband. The husband was allowed by a local court here to give Rs 55,000 in one and two rupee coins to his wife as maintenance dues for 11 months after his family brought the money filled in seven sacks to the court following his arrest for non-payment on June 17.

The court had directed the husband to count the coin and hand it over to his wife on next hearing on June 26. During the hearing today, an application on behalf of the woman was moved in the court in which it was said that a transaction of coins worth more than Rs 1000 is not valid under the rule and she should be given currency notes instead of the coins.

Her lawyer Ramprakash Kumawat said that as per the rules, transactions involving more than 1,000 rupees in coins are not considered valid.
