VIOLENCE MARS NOMINATIONS

Jaipur: Chaotic scenes were reported from parts of Rajasthan, including capital Jaipur, on Monday after students clashed with police during filing of nominations for students’ union polls scheduled for August 26. Nearly ten student leaders sustained injuries during the clash. The ADCP was also injured in the scuffle. The entire episode was associated with the supporters of independent candidate Nirmal Chaudhary, but the ABVP came under its grip. Police had to resort to lathicharge. Around 3 o’clock, Chaudhary filed his nomination papers and reached the main gate of the university, where thousands of his supporters were waiting. Chaudhary got angry as police tried to stop the students. He came to the main gate and started shouting slogans against the police. Later, he got angry after police lathicharged his sister.

“They were violating model code of conduct and when they were stopped from forcefully entering the campus, they created ruckus and entered the premises. FIR will be registered against the violators,” a police official said. Amid the clash, ABVP workers entered the campus with their presidential candidate Narendra Yadav on a tractor. Police lathicharged the ABVP workers as well. Four students, including Yadav got injured. Later, the ABVP activists blocked the JLN road for about an hour. Yadav said, “I am the son of a farmer and whenever I have raised voice for students, I am being suppressed. We were targeted by the police under a conspiracy.” In a college in Barmer, supporters of two rival candidates confronted each other during the nomination. Police used mild force to control the situation. Similar incidents of ruckus were reported from Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer as well, but officials said police quickly brought the situation under control by taking many into custody.
