Untimely rains damage 7 main crops in 18 districts

Jaipur: Unseasonal rains and hailstorms have caused a lot of damage to crops in 18 districts. Cumin, Isabgol, Mustard, Wheat, Barley, Gram, Taramira and Horticulture crops got damaged. A report by the agriculture department has assessed damage to crops until March 9 in districts.

Seven main crops and horticulture have been damaged in the last one week in Rajasthan. Wheat was sown in 29.65 lakh hectare. About 51,000 hectare of the crop has been damaged leading to 2-20 percent damage.

Barley was sown in 4.08 lakh hectare in the state but 15 percent of crops have been damaged. The total sowing area of gram was 20.57 lakh hectare. According to the department, the estimated damage is a loss of 5-15 percent.

Besides, mustard was sown in 38.98 lakh hectare but 2-20 percent was damaged. There is a possibility of loss of 5-40 percent of cumin crop. Up to 10.70 percent of Isabgol got damaged. Crops got damaged in Chittorgarh, Rajsamand, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Ajmer, Jalore, Pali, Sirohi, Jodhpur, Barmer, Kota, Baran, Bundi, Jhalawar, Udaipur, Banswara.
