Universities are beacons of knowledge: Guv
Jaipur: Governor and Chancellor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagade conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Science to eminent scientist and former Director of Institute of Indian Science, Bangalore, Prof. Goverdhan Mehta and President of Buffalo University, New York, USA, Prof. Satish K. Tripathi, at a special convocation of Maharaja Surajmal Brij University, Bharatpur, at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday.
On this occasion, he said that universities are beacons of knowledge. “Honoring eminent personalities who play a special and transformative role in society is a healthy tradition of education. This also inspires students to constantly do something new and transformative,” he said.
Expressing concern over students drifting away from values, Bagade said that work should be done in universities to inculcate values. He said that making videos instead of helping the needy in a calamity is insensitive. The teacher is a sculptor. He shapes the life of the student. Therefore, I expect that the universities of the state should become schools for character building,” he said.. The Governor expressed need to make Rajasthan a world leader in fundamental research & PhD courses in universities.
Earlier, the VC of the University, Prof. Ramesh Chandra, apprised the people about the work of the University.
