Tree felling for airport parking leads to protests

Jaipur: The protest has intensified at the Jaipur airport over felling of around 5-decade-old 594 trees. On the other hand, the airport administration has now stopped the entry of people here. The airport administration has stopped the cutting of trees for the last two days. But the way the trees are being cut here, there has been anger among the environmentalists.

The outline of tree cutting was decided by the airport administration only last year.

After the privatisation of Jaipur Airport, when the Adani Group took over its operations, the airport colony was vacated. Within 3 months of taking over the operations, all the houses in the colony were demolished. Meanwhile, the animals and birds living among the 700 lush green trees in the colony had also started leaving their homes.

Residents of the Airport Authority colony said that until a year ago, about 200 peacocks used to live among these trees in the colony.
