Transparency, fairness & accountability are essential for good governance: IAS Srinivas
Jaipur: The first lecture in memory of former IAS Dr. Satya Narain Singh was held on Sunday at the RIC. The event featured a presentation highlighting Dr. Singh’s life and the release of a book about him. Keynote speaker and Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, and Department of Pension & Pensioners’ Welfare Senior IAS V. Srinivas, shared insights on “Good Governance: Principles and Practice.” Rajasthan Heritage Conservation Promotion Authority Chairman Omkar Singh Lakhawat also shared the stage. Notable attendees included RIC Director Nihal Chand Goel, retired IAS officers A. Mukhopadhyay, IAS Meenakshi Hooja, I.C. Srivastava, IAS B.S. Detha, Justice N.K. Jain, retired IAS Girraj Singh Kushwaha, Ret. IAS N.S. Sisodia, IAS Kunjilal Meena, Ret. IAS R.S. Jakhad, social worker Kishore Singh, Justice Dhirendra Kachhawa, and social worker Satyendra Chaturvedi.
IAS V. Srinivas discussed the principles, practices, and benefits of good governance, emphasizing effective, transparent, fair, and accountable service to citizens. It is a system in which citizen participation is ensured. All policies and programs are implemented with integrity or transparency. Key principles include transparency, accountability, fairness, responsiveness, rule of law, efficiency, effectiveness, and public participation. He highlighted the importance of providing information, ongoing community dialogue, performance monitoring, grievance redressal systems, participatory policymaking, and training government officials through workshops. Good governance leads to economic development, social stability, and mutual trust. Countries like Sweden and New Zealand exemplify these principles. Initiatives like Digital India, RTI (Right To Information), and Smart City projects are crucial efforts toward good governance in India.
