Traders, leaders back 24-hr markets

Jaipur: Inspired by model in seven other states, traders and public representatives in Rajasthan are advocating for the establishment of night markets, viewing it as a beneficial move. Representatives have expressed their intention to request the government to allow traders to keep their shops open 24 hours, similar to the policy in Madhya Pradesh.

Former Minister and MLA Kalicharan Saraf emphasized that states where this initiative has been implemented are seeing positive results. Given Rajasthan’s status as a top destination for foreign tourists, the introduction of night markets in key tourist cities could improve their economic condition, support local entrepreneurs, and boost trade. Saraf assured that he would present this issue to the government.

Hawa Mahal MLA Balmukund Acharya pointed out that both Rajasthan and Jaipur are major tourism hubs. In Jaipur, tourists often roam around late at night, making it essential to permit 24-hour trade. This would promote night tourism. However, he stressed the need for proper administrative arrangements to ensure smooth operation. He believes this step would significantly increase employment opportunities.

Adarsh Nagar MLA Rafeek Khan supported the idea, stating that it would be a commendable initiative by the government. Initially, night markets should be allowed in areas with high tourist footfall, which would attract tourists and boost employment.
