STRATEGIST GEHLOT WINS OVER INDEPENDENT MLAs

Jaipur: As the nomination process for the four seats of Rajya Sabha starts from Tuesday, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday showed strength through meeting with 11 independent MLAs. The meeting took place at the Chief Minister’s residence where the independents apparently assured support to Congress candidates in the state.

With a majority in the House of 200, the ruling Congress is certain to win two seats of Rajya Sabha While the BJP will get one seat. The contest will be tough for the fourth seat, if BJP fields a candidate. Out of 10 Rajya Sabha member, BJP has 7 MPs while Congress has 3. Given the present situation, Congress may manage to increase its tally up to 6 if manages to win on 4th seats also. MLA Sanyam Lodha, Khushveer Singh, Alok Beniwal, Suresh Tank, Ramkesh Meena, Mahadev Khandela, Om Hudla, Babulal Nagar, Ramila Khadia, Laxman Meena and Kanti Meena met Gehlot. Official sources said there was long discussion about the Rajya Sabha elections among the leaders. These MLAs had a meeting in the Assembly in the morning and from there it was decided to meet the CM. Baljeet Singh and Rajkumar Gaur could not come due to being busy.
