Spike in crime as police department is understaffed

Jaipur: On one hand the graph of crimes is increasing in the state, while on the other hand Rajasthan Police is facing shortage of staff as at present a large number of posts from IPS to constable are lying vacant in the state.

For the past few years, the number of crimes in Rajasthan has been increasing year after year. The number of serious crimes ranging from murder to rape is also continuously increasing in the state, according to NCRB data.

In the year 2022, 2 lakh 39 thousand 459 cases were registered under various IPC sections in the state and 73 thousand 345 cases were registered under local and special acts. Of these, FR was filed in 1 lakh 13 thousand 508 cases, challan has been presented in 1 lakh 77 thousand 419 cases and investigation is pending in 21877 cases. In the year 2022, 1337 cases of gang rape were registered. 4128 cases have been registered in relation to other rapes which has increased by 11.90 percent compared to 2021. 1628 cases were registered under Section 4/6 of the POCSO Act for crimes against children and minors whereas 2162 cases were registered under other POCSO Act. In the rape cases of these two categories, investigation of 887 cases is currently pending. 99 cases of murder, 11 of grievous hurt, 658 of rape and 83 of causing grievous harm were registered.

One of the major reasons for the increase in crime graph in the state is that there is a huge shortage of staff in the Rajasthan Police.
