Sonia Gandhi files nomination as Congress candidate from Rajasthan
Jaipur: Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday filed her nomination papers here for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls from Rajasthan. Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, former CM Ashok Gehlot, PCC chief Govind Singh Dotasra, LoP Tikaram Jully were present at the time of the nomination filing in the Assembly building.
The Congress is comfortably placed to win 1 of 3 Rajya Sabha seats from Rajasthan. The seat will fall vacant after former PM Manmohan Singh completes his 6-year tenure in April. It will be Sonia’s first term in Upper House after serving 5 terms as a Lok Sabha MP. The 77-year-old, who represented Rae Bareli in LS, will not contest next general elections. “We heartily welcome announcement of Sonia Gandhi as RS candidate from Cong, who renounced post of PM. Today her announcement as RS candidate from Raj is a matter of happiness,” Gehlot posted on X.
