'Sant Kabir music festival’ to be held at Jawahar kala Kendra on 26 & 27 February

Jaipur: Jawahar Kala Kendra (JKK) will host the 2-day 'Sang Kabir Music Festival' on 26 & 27 February in collaboration with Bikaner-based cultural organizations, Lokayan, and Rajasthan Kabir Yatra. The Festival will be celebrating the teachings and traditions of the 15th-century Indian mystic poet and saint, Kabir Das, a spiritual master known for his humility and simplicity who still inspires millions across the world through his practical and life-transforming writings and ‘dohas’.

The festival will explore Kabir and his composite culture through a range of musical performances and sessions by renowned artists in the open theatre of Jawahar Kala Kendra between 6 pm to 10 pm. On 26 February, the inauguration ceremony will be marked by the performances of Kaluramji Bamaniya & Group. They belong to a vibrant tradition of singing Bhakti poets such as Kabir, Gorakhnath, Bananath, and Meera in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. This will be followed by ‘Melodies of the Thar’ by Mir Basu and his troupe from Portugal in Rajasthan.

The day will conclude with ‘Sounds of the Sufis’ by the Murshidabad Project, a young generation of artists from West Bengal. This is a Sufi initiative to explore and experiment with Sufi Literature and Indian Music. It will feature Swetketu Banerjee on Sitar and Soumyadeep Murshidabadi on Vocals. Also, there will be an art session from 4 pm to 5.30 pm, ‘Rangrez’ by artist Amit Kalla where one will discover a deep connection to a cultural expression of universal spirituality and a passionate sense of the humanity of Kabir.

On 27 February, the audience will witness ‘Kabir Ki Daastan’ a Musical Dastangoi by the stunning duo, Himanshu Bajpai and Vedanth Bharadwaj from Lucknow and Chennai respectively. The festival will wind down with an electrifying performance by Neeraj Arya’s Kabir Café, a Mumbai-based folk fusion band known for performing songs composed out of Saint Kabir's Dohas. There will also be a session at 4 pm on ‘Exploring Speech & Sound’ by Darshan Singh. It will teach one to immerse themselves in the journey of sound vibrations through 'Kabir Vaani' to experience the presence in the oneness of our being.
