RS ELECTIONS: Tickets to ‘outsiders’ raise eyebrows

Jaipur: As all three candidates of Congress are from outside Rajasthan, questions are now being raised about the party’s decision.

Advisor to CM Ashok Gehlot and independent MLA Sanyam Lodha said, “Congress party should tell this to the people that what are the reasons for not making a person of Rajasthan a candidate for Rajya Sabha.” Meetings were going on at Sonia Gandhi’s place in Delhi since morning regarding the announcement of candidates for Rajya Sabha polls from different states.

Mukul Wasnik has been in-charge of Rajasthan Congress earlier. Both Wasnik and Surjewala are close to CM Gehlot. During the political crisis in 2020 after the revolt of then Dy CM Sachin Pilot, Surjewala was with CM and took the lead in resolving the crisis. Pramod Tiwari was an MLA 9 times from Rampur seat of UP, this time he got his daughter contested.

By giving ticket to Wasnik, Congress has played dalit card while by making Surjewala a candidate, the party has played Jat ticket. Similarly, giving ticket to Pramod Tiwari, the party has played the Brahmin card. This is first such incident in history of Congress in Rajasthan RS polls that no native of Rajasthan became a candidate.
