Rajya Sabha polls to be held before Lok Sabha elections in Rajasthan

Jaipur: There will be no byelections on four vacant seats of Lok Sabha in Rajasthan. The election of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha seats will be held along with the general/Rajya Sabha elections.

Three out of four BJP MPs who were elected as MLAs have resigned from their seats.
Diya Kumari and Rajyavardhan S Rathore were the Lok Sabha MP while Kirodi Lal Meena was the Rajya Sabha MP. Third Lok Sabha MP Baba Balaknath is yet to resign. It is believed that Balaknath will resign from the Lok Sabha onThursday.

Four out of seven MPs fielded by BJP in Rajasthan Assembly elections have won the elections. According to Article 101 (2) of the Constitution, a person winning an assembly election has to resign from one House within 14 days of issuance of the notification. There is a rule to hold elections on vacant seats within six months. The tenure of current Lok Sabha is ending within six months, hence byelections will not be held on vacant LS seats.

As far as Rajya Sabha is concerned, three out of ten seats in the state are going to fall vacant on March 3, 2024. This also includes the seat of Dr. Kirodilal Meena.

In such a situation, Rajya Sabha elections will be held in Rajasthan before the Lok Sabha elections. The Voting for Rajya Sabha is likely to be held in the last week of January.
