RAJ’S ‘SON OF THE SOIL’ PROVES HIS SALT IN KANPUR!

Jaipur: Rajasthan’s ‘son of the soil’ has been making a name not just for him but also for the state on national stage. One such ‘son’ currently in discussion in power circles of the state is Uttar Pradesh cadre IPS officer Vijay Singh Meena who is currently serving as Kanpur Police Commissioner. This 1996 batch IPS is a native of Jaipur.

The Kanpur violence, which recently shocked the entire nation, has been curtailed and controlled by swift and decisive action of Vijay Singh Meena and as a result he is being applauded and appreciated across the nation.

Born in Karvada village near Shri Mahaveerji, Meena has done his schooling in Rajasthan after his he graduated from IIT Delhi with a B.Tech degree. After this stint he joined the IPS, following his father’s footsteps who is a retired govt officer.

Meena took over as Kanpur Police Commissioner nearly five months back, but even in this small time frame, he has successfully brought the law and order of this sensitive city under his complete command, so much so that he controlled the rioting easily and gave an example of his capabilities.

On the day of violence, two top VVIP leaders of the nation – the President and the Prime Minister - were in Kanpur and on the same day a conspiracy was hatched to bring down law and order by initiating a ‘fire’. To control the situation was a gargantuan challenge and Meena held the bull by the horns and came out victorious. The UP government is lauding Kanpur Police Commissioner’s effort to unearth the conspiracy and identification of arsonists, also appreciated by the regional media.

Prior to becoming Kanpur Commissioner, Meena served as IG of Varanasi and in January 2021 was promoted as ADG. Prior to election, Kanpur’s first police commissioner Aseem Arun had taken VRS and then the UP government sent a three name panel to Election Commissioner wherein Vijay Singh Meena was selected and on January 13, 2022, he was appointed as Kanpur Police Commissioner.

Meena’s wife passed away in Sept 2021 and the funeral was held in Jaipur. His elder daughter is studying in Delhi. He lives in Kanpur which his younger daughter studying in Class 12 and son in Class 8. His batchmate IAS officers are currently holding important positions in Rajasthan govt.
