Rajasthan’s Pride: Sanjay Malhotra Appointed Governor of RBI
Jaipur: In a significant and rare achievement, Rajasthan’s very own ‘Son of the Soil’ - IAS Sanjay Malhotra - has brought immense pride to the state with his appointment as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The appointment of the 1990-batch IAS officer marks a historic and pivotal moment for Rajasthan and the Indian bureaucracy.
Currently serving as the Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Malhotra will take on the role of RBI Governor for three years, following the retirement of the current Governor, Shaktikanta Das. Malhotra is set to assume his new responsibilities on December 11, 2024.
Hailing from Bikaner in Rajasthan, Sanjay Malhotra began his tenure with the Central Government in January 2020 when he was initially appointed as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Energy. However, his exceptional performance led to a swift promotion. Within a year, he was elevated to the position of Secretary (Financial Services) in the Ministry of Finance, where his talent, efficiency, and dedication caught the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also praised Malhotra for his exemplary work and entrusted him with the crucial role of Secretary (Revenue) in the Finance Ministry. Over the past two years, Malhotra played a pivotal role in shaping the annual budget under Sitharaman’s leadership. His increasing prominence in the corridors of power led to speculation that he might soon be appointed to an even higher post, with many predicting a future Cabinet Secretary position.
However, in a surprise move on Monday, the central government appointed Sanjay Malhotra to the prestigious post of RBI Governor, leaving the bureaucratic world in awe. His elevation to this critical role is a testament to his outstanding capabilities and accomplishments.
This remarkable achievement has not only brought recognition to Malhotra but also pride to Rajasthan. It is a joyous coincidence that this announcement comes on the same day that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Jaipur, praised the people of Rajasthan. The appointment of Sanjay Malhotra has further amplified the state’s celebration and recognition.
Malhotra’s rise to the top echelons of India’s financial sector is a testament to his hard work and dedication, marking a proud moment for both Rajasthan and the nation.
