Protest after budget passed without talks

Jaipur: In General Body Meeting of Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater held on Thursday, a budget of Rs 1189.42 crore for the financial year 2024-25 was passed.

BJP councillor and Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Punit Karnavat protested in the House, raising questions on the process of passing the budget. He said that calling a meeting in less than 48 hours’ notice was against the rules and passing the budget without discussing it with all the members is undemocratic.

When Finance Committee Chairperson Sheel Dhabhai presented the budget, Karnavat called it a violation of the rights of the members of the House and there was an altercation between the two.

Karnavat said that the budgets of the last two times were sent to the government without being presented in the House and today when the meeting is called, why are the members not being asked to discuss it?
