Prepare strategy to achieve targets for FY 2024-25: Pathak

Jaipur: A virtual review meeting of the Commercial Tax Department was held on Monday under the chairmanship of Finance Secretary Revenue KK Pathak where the focus was on the top 25 circles which were collecting weak revenue as compared to the targets set by the department. Along with the circle in-charges and their senior officers, he sought to know the reasons for lagging and also gave instructions to make improvements. He told the officers to prepare a concrete strategy to achieve the targets allotted for the financial year 2024-25.

According to sources, officers ranging from Assistant Commissioner to Assistant Commercial Tax Officer of the department were present in the meeting held through Webex of the department in the Government Secretariat. In his address, Pathak also directed the officials to reduce the dependence on the top taxpayers of the state along with identifying new taxpayers and focusing on collecting tax from them.

It is said that at present the department has identified about 61,000 taxpayers in the category of top taxpayers in the state. Taxpayers who had paid less revenue of more than Rs 5 crore in the last financial year were also discussed.

Revenue targets have been set for the Commercial Tax Department for the financial year 2024- 25, in which a target of 60 percent increase has been set based on the net revenue of the financial year 2023-24. Sources say that achieving the target seems very difficult in the current circumstances. Some officials questioned this but it was said that the targets have been set by the finance department and it is the responsibility of all the officers to achieve through teamwork.
