POWER SECTOR: CONSUMERS TIE HOPES TO CM’S BUDGET

Jaipur: People expect that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot will provide free and subsidized electricity in this budget. In the last budget, 50 units of electricity had been announced free of cost to the consumers who consume up to 100 units of electricity every month, and grants to those who use more electricity. It is expected that the CM will provide free and subsidized electricity in this budget as well. Besides, the announcement of a new power company for the successful implementation of IT in the power sector in Rajasthan is also proposed.

Gehlot had given free-subsidized electricity in the last budget. Consumers consuming 100 units were given 50 units of electricity free, those consuming 150 units got a subsidy of Rs 3 and those consuming 151 to 300 units got a subsidy of Rs 2 per unit. Besides, the slab-wise discount was given on consumption of more than 300 units.

To implement IT sector innovation in power companies, eighth power companies may be announced in the state. A new power company “ITCOM” may be announced in the upcoming budget. A proposal has been sent by the Energy Department to form an IT company. Earlier, seven power companies were operating in different areas. Besides, RVPNL is working to strengthen the power transmission system. While RVUNL is handling power plant generation in Rajasthan, RRECL has the task of promoting renewable energy in the state.

Rajasthan’s power distribution system is expected to be strengthened. The energy department expects that the focus will be on system improvement to provide electricity to the farmers during the day. 400 KV, 220 KV, 132 KV, and 33 KV GSS may be announced in the budget and the existing ones are expected to be upgraded. New power department offices can be opened. The Discom administration has sent a proposal to open a new office to the Energy Department.
