Poonia lends support to wrestlers

Jaipur: Former discus thrower and Congress MLA Krishna Poonia on Thursday came out in support of the wrestler’s protest at Jantar Mantar and took out a protest march from Rajasthan University to Gandhi Circle seeking action against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) President and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

While speaking to media persons, Krishna Poonia said, “The daughters who won medals for the country at the international level and raised its prestige are being forced to cry on streets and stage protests. Questions are being asked to the wrestlers many times and the person on whom the POCSO Act has been imposed is comfortably giving interviews,” said Krishna Poonia.

“BJP and other political parties are making comments on social media about the castes of the protesters, which is unfair. The entire BJP is engaged in saving its MP and if there was a common man in place of Brij Bhushan Singh, he would have been behind bars long ago,” Poonia added, who is also Chairperson of Rajasthan State Sports Council.
