PHED losing crores in revenue due to absence of meter readers in dept

Jaipur: The water department is suffering losses worth crores of rupees due to the absence of metre readers. The department has dues of more than Rs 600 crore. The consumers are not able to deposit the amount due to lack of bills. In some places, the department relies on contractors, who keep bills with them for several days. Due to the department not having its own employees, illegal connections cannot be checked.

The category of those running hotels and hospitals in residential complexes is not being changed and this is also causing revenue loss.

Outstanding bills of several months are being handed over to consumers with a penalty without any prior information. Besides this, there is no regulation on illegal connections.
