NO CARD, NO BENEFIT

Jaipur: Nationwide lockdown was announced on March 24, 2020, to curb spread of deadly Covid-19 pandemic, millions of people were unemployed, and especially migrant workers were the most affected, they returned to their villages and were mostly depended on ration and relief.

What worsened their situation was, many of them did not have a minimum 90- day certificate of employment & hence could not make the Building and Other Construction Workers (BOCW) card and avail of the benefits.

The situation in Raja was no different; even today, labourers aren’t aware of this card and benefits. So, on international Labour’s Day, ministers & MLAs are bating for creating awareness.

MLA from Ghatol block, Harendra Ninama said contractors & companies must ensure 90 days certificate of employment.

Echoing the same thought Krishna Kumar Singh, programmer facilitator at a Banswara-based civil society, Vaagdhara said, “An awareness campaign in 300-gram Panchayat , where all construction labours were educated about BOCW card and also briefed about the process of registration and also talked about 90 days certificate that is the most important part of process.”
