New Cheetah Reserve soon, Rajasthan, MP to sign MoU

Jaipur: In an exciting move for wildlife enthusiasts, Rajasthan’s forest department is working to establish a dedicated cheetah habitat spanning from Dholpur to Rawatbhata. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Madhya Pradesh is expected to be signed soon, marking a significant step toward this project.

A two-day meeting is scheduled to commence tomorrow in Kuno, Madhya Pradesh, focusing on the cheetah landscape. Key officials, including Chief Wildlife Warden Pawan Upadhyay, APCCF (Wildlife) Rajesh Gupta, Ranthambore Field Director Anup KR, and other senior wildlife authorities, will be in attendance.

Officials from Madhya Pradesh’s wildlife department will also participate, and an expert committee is set to be formed to assess the project’s feasibility. Following the committee’s report, a draft MoU will be prepared.

The plan involves linking Gandhi Sagar, Bhainsroadgarh, and Chambal sanctuaries with Kuno National Park, creating a continuous corridor for cheetahs and designing safari routes. A feasibility study, in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh, will be a critical part of the MoU.

Discussions between Pawan Upadhyay and Madhya Pradesh’s Chief Wildlife Warden on the subject have already taken place, and an official announcement regarding the expert committee is anticipated by early October.
