Need school naming regulation to prevent political bias: Khimsar

Jaipur: A new directive is being established to govern the naming of government schools and colleges in the State, aimed at preventing any political advantage from the process. The cabinet sub-committee, led by Health Min Gajendra S Khimsar, has instructed the Education and Higher Education Departments to create definitive guidelines in this regard.

The committee reviewed decisions from the previous government in Education and Personnel Departments. Khimsar observed that many school and college names were politically motivated before the Code of Conduct, potentially favouring certain parties during polls. Jogaram Patel, Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs, emphasised the need for new guidelines specifying criteria such as honouring freedom fighters, martyrs, or donors for whom schools and colleges can be named in the future.

Regarding the closure of Gandhi Vatika, libraries, and reading rooms under the previous Congress government, Patel noted no specific issues during their review.

The committee, formed in February this year to review former govt’s decisions, will have a few more meetings before submitting its report to State Govt.
