Major changes in Khaki’s top positions post election?

Jaipur: The month of April is crucial for the state police force as the state police will get two new Director Generals (DGs). Current DG, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) - Rajeev Kumar Sharma - got relieved on Tuesday and has headed for central deputation. Meanwhile, 1989 batch IPS currently serving as DG, Jails - Bhupendra Kumar Dak - will retire on April 30. Hence two posts of DG will be vacant by end of this month.

According to the seniority list, Hemant Priyadarshy and Sanjay Agrawal are to be promoted to the posts of DG. Hemant, a 1992 batch IPS, is serving as ADGACB since October 2022, currently officiating as DG- ACB. Keeping in mind Hemant’s outstanding performance in Anti Corruption Bureau , he is likely to continue in ACB as DG, even after his promotion. As such, Hemant has handled important assignments from November 2020 to August 2022 in CRPF and ITBP and he still has one more year to go for retirement.

1992 batch IPS Sanjay Agrawal is currently serving as ADG-Intelligence and it is anybody’s guess what posting he gets after promotion as DG. In the previous Vasundhara Raje government, Sanjay Agrawal served as Jaipur Police Commissioner from February 2016 to December 2018 and he has four years and eight months still left for his retirement in December 2028.

Janga Sriniwas Rao, serving as DG, will also retire in June this year, and against that vacancy, 1993 batch IPS currently serving as ADG - Govind Gupta - will get promoted. Looking at these promotions, once the model code of conduct is over after Lok Sabha election, the state police department may undergo major changes at the senior level.
