Journalism is a beacon of public awareness: Shekhawat
Jaipur: Nearly 1500 journalists from all over the country participated in a two-day National General Convention organized in NIMS University and engaging in discussions on various pressing issues.
Pawan Arora, the CEO and Managing Editor of First India News, attended the program as chief guest. Convener of BJP Election Management Committee Narayan Lal Panchariya, Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, senior Journalist Gopal Sharma, BJP National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and Dr. Pankaj Singh were also present in the programme.
In his inaugural speech, Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat highlighted the significant role of journalism in preserving India’s cultural heritage. He emphasised that journalism serves as a beacon of public awareness and plays a pivotal role in upholding the nation’s ethos. He underscored the importance of integrity and honesty in journalism, especially in today’s digital age.
Kailash Vijayvargiya, stressed need for responsible journalism. He said that journalists should unveil accurate facts & avoid narratives detrimental to nation’s integrity. Vijayvargiya pledged unwavering support for journalists in various endeavors.
Pawan Arora discussed the challenges faced by journalists, including meager honorariums and obstacles in accreditation. He advocated for respectable remuneration and a national code of journalists to streamline identification. As an ex-bureaucrat, Arora shared his personal concern and talked about the disparity in recognition and honorariums for journalists. “A national code of journalists should be made so that it can be decided how journalists can be identified. There are many obstacles in the accreditation of journalists, which also need simplification,” Arora said.
