Hathi Gaon celebrates by planting saplings

Jaipur: World Elephant Day was celebrated with cake cutting in Hathi Gaon in Jaipur’s Amer on Friday. Elephants were fed fruits and 21 saplings were planted in Hath Gaon to mark the day. Elephant owners, forest department officials, veterinarians and representatives of NGOs were present at the function. Hathi Gaon is situated in Kunda village near Amer where tourists, both domestic and from abroad, come to enjoy elephant safaris. It is India’s first and world’s third elephant village which was settled 11 year ago.

All the facilities for elephants are there in the village which is spread over 100 acres of land. At present there are 86 elephants in this village. There are elephants of Assam and Kerala in the Hathi Gaon. The gaon has about 22 blocks where the elephants live. A Microchip is placed near the ear of every elephant to identify the elephant. The chip contains the name and registration number of the elephant. On Friday on the occasion of World Elephant Day celebration took place as all over the world for creating awareness for conservation of elephants.
