Harassed by accused, minor dalit rape victim dies by suicide in Barmer

Barmer: Harassed by continues threats from the accused, a 16-year-old dalit rape victim ended her life by jumping into water tank late Saturday night under Sadar police station area in Barmer.

The Class 10 student was raped around two months ago, when she was returning back from school, the police said on Sunday.

Her family members said she took extreme step after facing too much harassment. Rampratap Singh, SHO at women police station, confi rmed the matter.

The accused is identifi ed as a resident of Baytu. The accused harassed her for the past one year by sending obscene messages and videos of her.

On March 17, the victim shared the incident with her parents, after which they assured her of strict action against but due to Holi they could not approach the police on time and late on March 19 the victim ended her life.

A case has been lodged under relevant sections and is being investigated by the circle offi cer of Barmer.
