Half of rape cases in Raj are fake, increase in crime cases due to compulsory FIR: CM Gehlot

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has indicated to recommend to the CBI the investigate into death of a Dalit child due to the beating of a teacher in Surana of Jalore. He said that people are still coming to Jalore incident and unnecessarily spreading wrong information. “Bhai, you should first know the truth. If you say we can give this case to the CBI. If you don’t have faith in Rajasthan Police, we will give the case to CBI. It does not matter to us, b ut no one has the right to defame Rajasthan. Some people are spreading whatever they want,” Gehlot said while interacting with journalists after attending the convocation parade at Rajasthan Police Academy.

Gehlot claimed that more than half of the cases of crimes against women are false, along with citing the system of Compulsory FIR as the reason behind the increase in crime figures in the state. “Crime is under control here. Who is involved in rape cases? Does any foreigner come and rape women? Most of the incidents are done by acquaintances of the family, their relatives. More than half of that i.e. 56 percent are liars. False cases are being filed. We have also started action against them,” he said. CM Gehlot said that the DGP is standing with him. “I would like to tell the DGP that such people who file false cases, we have to deal with them strictly. There should be a serious investigation against the false cases and take them to the logical end so that other people do not dare to defame the state by doing so. If there is news of increase in rape or crime in any state, then it is defamed. My own and the government’s principle is that if someone criticizes then never feel bad. It hurts when rumors run without facts,” he said. Gehlot stressed that crime is less in Rajasthan than other states. “Many politicians making allegations don’t understand. Earlier people didn’t go to police stations fearing humiliation. We have set up reception rooms in police stations & made provision for compulsory FIRs. Now whoever visits police station with a plaint, an FIR is registered. This revolutionary step should be implemented in every state. Making FIRs mandatory would increase number of crimes,” he said.
