‘Govt to bear expense of patients at pvt hosps during emergency’

Jaipur: State Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena has said that the government will bear the expenses of the treatment of the patients turning to private hospitals in emergency situations.

In view of the doctors & private hospital owners opposing the Right to Health Bill, the government has decided to create a separate fund for emergency treatment. Meena, however, did not mention the amount that the separate fund would have. The Health Minister said that if a patient comes in an emergency situation, the government will bear the expenses. “We will create a separate fund as more than 50% of patients go to private hospitals for treatment. The private hospital owners were protesting as to who would bear the cost of the treatment,” he said.

The Select Committee of the Legislative Assembly will hold a meeting to hear the suggestions of the doctors protesting against this bill. The committee is likely to present its report on February 13.
