Good News: Tigress ‘Rani’ gives birth to 3 cubs in N’garh bio park
Jaipur: Three tiger cubs have been born in Nahargarh Biological Park. Interestingly, two of these cubs are normal and one is white in colour. Therefore, the birth of a white tiger in Rajasthan is a rare event. Tiger’s colour is white due to lack of pheomelanin and for a white tiger to be born, genes for pheomelanin deficiency should be present in both parents. The tigress ‘Rani’ that gave birth to the cubs was born in Nandan Kanan in Odisha while her mate ‘Shivaji’ was born in Gwalior. White tigers have been born in both the states. However, till now most of the white tigers in the country are born in captivity.
The birth of these cubs has strengthened the call of wildlife lovers that interstate translocation is necessary to increase the gene pool of tigers in the state. Perhaps with the birth of this white cub, the forest department would work quickly towards translocation. For this, tigers could be brought from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand soon so that the gene pool of tigers in the state can be increased.
