Facing shortage of judges, HC likely to get nine more taking the number to 35

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court is currently facing a shortage of judges. At present, only 26 judges are working on the 50 sanctioned posts of judges in the High Court.

Justice Manoj Kumar Vyas retired in February, 2022. Chief Justice Akil Kureshi retired in March, Justice Devendra Kachhawa in July, Chief Justice SS Shinde in August, Justice Rameshwar Vyas retired in Sep & Justice Prakash Gupta in Nov.

In this year, 6 judges have retired from HC and this year only two judges Justice Shubha Mehta and Justice Kuldeep Mathur have been appointed by Central Government.

Justice Shubha Mehta has become judge from judicial quota, Justice Kuldeep Mathur from advocate quota. After the appointment of Justice Shubha Mehta and Justice Kuldeep Mathur in June, no name has been approved by Centre yet. Now HC is likely to get 9 judges soon with which number of judges in HC will rise to 35.

There will also be a possibility of rapid decline in pendency of the High Court. 26 judges, including Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal, are working in HC.
