‘Ensure that ambulances do not overcharge consumers’

Jaipur: Taking cognizance of frequent complaints about high charges taken by ambulance operators, transport commissioner Kanhaiya Lal Swami has directed RTOs and DTOs to ensure that ambulances charge only the fare fixed by the Transport Department. He directed them to take action if the ambulance operators charge extra.

The commissioner has also given instructions regarding display of rate charge outside private hospitals so that people can know the actual fare for an ambulance.

The department has been receiving frequent complaints that most of the ambulance operators are charging more than the prescribed fare.

There have been complaints about ambulances which operate from outside both government and private hospitals. The charge for an ambulance is Rs 500 for the first 10 kilometers. After 10 kms, ambulances operating in Maruti Van, Marshall and Max vehicles can charge 12.50 rupees per kilometer.
