‘Ensure availability of water sources’

Jaipur: Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that it is necessary to ensure the availability of water sources for the successful implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission. He said that projects under the Mission should be made only after proper survey of available water sources. “East Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) is very important for the success of the mission in 13 districts of the state, as it will ensure continuous supply of water to the districts. ERCP should be given the status of a national project by the central government so that its construction is completed soon and the people of the state can be benefited,” Gehlot said.

He said that the Centre should set the parameters of the scheme keeping in mind the geographical conditions of the states. “In view of the heterogeneous geographical condition and scattered settlement of Rajasthan, additional funds are required to supply water from tap to every household. The cost per tap connection is very high here as compared to other states. In view of this, the share of the Centre in the mission should be increased to 90 per cent,” he said.
