Dravyawati River Project: HC allocates `210 Crore for maintenance over 10 years
Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has taken suo-motu cognizance of the Dravyawati River maintenance and operation project, ordering a public interest litigation (PIL) to ensure proper monitoring of the project. The court’s directive comes as part of its commitment to safeguarding the fundamental right of citizens to live in a clean and pollutionfree environment.
In the decision, Justice Sudesh Bansal emphasized that the government is constitutionally obligated to provide and maintain a pollution-free atmosphere for its citizens. “Living in a clean and pollution-free environment is a fundamental right of every citizen. If the maintenance and operation of this project are not monitored adequately, it could harm the public interest and violate the fundamental rights of the people,” Justice Bansal stated.
As part of the project’s execution, Rs 210 crore will be allocated for the maintenance and operation of the Dravyawati River over the next 10 years. The JDA will pay Rs 20.60 crore annually to Tata Projects, the company tasked with managing the project. The HC has mandated that both JDA and Tata Projects submit an annual report detailing progress and activities related to maintenance and operation of the Dravyawati River. These reports will be submitted as part of PIL, ensuring regular oversight and transparency in the project’s implementation.
