DEVVANI ECHOES IN ASSEMBLY AS 21 MLAs TAKE OATH IN SANSKRIT

Jaipur: The first session of the 16th Rajasthan Assembly began on Wednesday with the swearing-in of MLAs. Of the 190 MLAs, who were sworn in, took oath in the name of God rather than in the name of affirmation i.e. fidelity.

Interestingly, 21 MLAs took oath in Sanskrit and this happened for the first time in the Assembly. Congress MLA Zubair Khan and Independent Yoonus Khan surprised everyone by taking oath in Sanskrit. More than half a dozen MLAs demanded to take oath in Rajasthani. BJP’s Anshuman S Bhati and independent RS Bhati even took oath in their local language.

But Pro-tem Speaker Kalicharan Saraf asked them to take oath again, citing that Rajasthani language doesn’t have constitutional recognition.
