Declaring Kumbhalgarh as tiger reserve must
Jaipur: With the rising population of tigers in Ranthambore and Sariska, the urgency for Kumbhalgarh to gain the status of a tiger reserve has increased. This designation is crucial to facilitate a tiger rehabilitation program. Kumbhalgarh would be unique as the only tiger reserve in the Western World Line, offering a sanctuary where tigers can roam freely.
The prey base in Kumbhalgarh is superior to that of Mukundra Tiger Reserve, with the region boasting the highest population of Sambhar. Despite these advantages, the project faces several obstacles. While the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has given its in-principle approval, outstanding issues require the formation of an expert committee to review and report to the state government.
Additionally, there are concerns regarding the impact on the tribal communities in Kumbhalgarh, which need to be addressed to move forward.
