Congress eyeing more rebels as independents may play vital role

Jaipur: Days before the counting of votes slated on December 3, both Congress and BJP have started approaching rebel candidates and independents who are likely to win the elections.

The focus lies on those who wield influence substantial enough to sway the electoral outcome. Reflecting on past elections, it is evident that independents played a crucial role.

In a reminiscent scenario, when Ashok Gehlot sought independents to secure his Chief Minister position in the past election, they rallied behind him, solidifying Congress’s government formation. Similar tactics are in play this time as both parties are actively engaging with rebels and independents who could impact Dec 3rd results.

The significance of these rebel leaders is emphasized by the fact that in the 2018 elections, 29 seats witnessed victory margins exceeding 1000 votes. Of these, BJP secured 13 seats, Congress 9, while others and independents claimed four and three respectively. Additionally, nine seats hung in the balance with victory or defeat margins under 1000 votes.
